1979 Cougar XR7

20200814_164344

This cool cruiser from the 1970s came to the Netherlands in 2017.

This is the XR7 version. The Cougar is equipped with the original 302 V8 engine. The engine runs very well and quietly. The automatic transmission shifts smoothly. The car is also equipped with air conditioning and cruise control, but both still deserve some attention. The car drives wonderfully thanks to the existing power steering and brake booster with disc brakes at the front. The tires are new and therefore in very good condition.

The car still has the original coat of paint from 1979. The paint is therefore 41 years old and of course time has influenced the car and shows small signs of wear and scratches. The vinyl roof is also in good condition apart from a few small stains. These can be seen in the photos on our website. But the car is rock hard and has no rust !!

The interior still looks very neat. The sofa, door panels, carpet and headliner are all in very good condition.

Please note this is not a new car, show car, or perfectly restored car !! But it is a super honest, hard and rustproof classic that can be used for many kilometers with pleasure!

The car has a Dutch registration and a Dutch MOT. Get in and drive for the Dutch! It doesn't have to be difficult for our European customers to get this beautiful typical cruiser onto the roads.

Very good basis !! Cool car, fun to drive !!!!

Some background information:

In keeping with the trend of the time, the old Ford Torino chassis was no longer used from 1979 onwards. All Ford and Mercury mid-sized cars got the lighter Ford Fox chassis from 1980 onwards. Customers in Lincoln-Mercury showrooms were surprised by the all-new Cougar. The new, straighter and tighter design, which resembled the Ford Thunderbird and Lincoln Continental Mark V, had replaced the earlier appearance of an airplane fuselage.

The Cougar now shared its bodyshell with the Ford Thunderbird. It was previously the same size as the Lincoln Continental Mk V, but has now been reduced to the size of a mid-size car with a 114-inch (289.6 cm) wheelbase, similar to the Cougar. The T-bird used to belong to the higher end segment, along with the Buick Riviera and the Oldsmobile Tornado, but was now reduced to a mid-sized personal luxury car. This modification would unite the Ford Thunderbird and Cougar until production ended in 1997.
